Mason Pinder Apprentice 'highly commended' at the Polymer Apprentice of the Year Awards

Monday 8th March 2021

Mason Pinder's Lavinia Stevenson has been awarded the 'highly commended' honour at the Worshipful Company of Horners (Horners) and British Plastics Federation (BPF) Polymer Apprentice of the Year Award's 2020 for her drive and attitude towards learning.

Lavinia attended the virtual awards at the start of March 2021 alongside Mason Pinder Factory Manager Simon Golightly and Polypipe Building Products Technical Director Adrian Bristow, who presented Lavinia with her award.

Lavinia's Line Manager and Mason Pinder Factory Manager, Simon Golightly said of the commendation:

From the moment Lavinia started it was clear that she was destined to succeed at whichever pathway she chose. Her attitude from day one has been exemplary, there is no task to big or to small, everything Lavinia does she gives 100%.

Lavinia chose to move into a Tooling design role that suited her and the business, and since moving into this role she has grown in confidence which led her to the involvement in the assembly relocation project, this project was one of many reasons to enter her into the BPF apprentice of the year award.

Lavinia fully deserves the highly commended award, not only for the project itself but for her commitment to Polypipe and her desire to succeed, and it is a pleasure to see her get recognition for all of her hard work.

Well done Lavinia.

Following the awards we spoke to Lavinia about her role and her time with Polypipe and Mason Pinder:

I am a fourth year Toolmaking/Design Apprentice now at Mason Pinder. Thanks to my job role I have been able to acquire an expansive new skill set that has helped me to carry out a variety of tasks within my working environment. In fact, I am currently working within the design office at Mason Pinder so that I can learn about a whole other aspect within engineering. This is a great opportunity for me as I am very interested in design processes, it has also allowed me to learn how to operate new software including the likes of Solid works & Auto-cad. In doing so I have been able to design the floorplan layout that is situated at our head office/base to create a better, more productive setup. This is a great skill to have and will help me within my future at the company.

During my time of working for Polypipe I have been given a variety of opportunities, as an example I got to go to visit the new training facility situated in Doncaster and help to interview the new headmaster as part of a student council, meeting princess Anne and being able to do a video interview for Doncaster chambers in regards to my job role as an apprentice, all of these were fantastic opportunities that I would not have been able to achieve without a Career in Engineering at Polypipe (Mason Pinder).

I enjoy my role at Mason Pinder as it is an excellent, supportive place to work. It has also given me the chance to meet some great people who I get to work with along the way, some now that have become life long friends.

Everybody at Polypipe Building Products and Mason Pinder would like to congratulate Lavinia on this fantastic achievement.
