St Stephen’s CE Primary School in Willington has helped Jimmy the Pekin Duck walk again thanks to a teachers genius idea to create her a walking frame.
Jimmy, who is actually female, was a school favourite before her health started to decline and vets advised euthanasia. She was taken in by the school's business manager Mrs Wilson who, as a keen crafter, created the frame and harness out of Polypipe fittings.
Head teacher Alison Richardson said:
“It was never in our plan to become duck parents but we all fell in love with Jimmy.”
The school is fundraising to buy equipment to cater to Jimmy’s needs and plan to eventually reintegrate her with the flock.
