- London welcomes the 3rd European Urban Green Infrastructure Conference.
- Delegates focus on techniques to climate-adapt rapidly expanding cities.
Some of the world’s leading ecologists and built environment specialist will gather in London in April for the 3rd European Urban Green Infrastructure Conference (EUGIC). Across the two-day event - staged at Here East in Stratford and sponsored by green urbanisation systems developer, Polypipe - delegates will have the opportunity to exchange knowledge and share practical experience on how the benefits of sustainable ecosystems can be exploited to mitigate the effects that climate and social change are having on our expanding cities.
More than 50 prominent speakers from industry and academia across the UK, Europe and the US will tackle topics, including the urban heat island effect, financing nature-based solutions, and governance and policy approaches. A variety of interactive panels, workshops, seminars and exhibitions will also take place between governments, industry, community and academia.
Previously held in Vienna and Budapest in 2017 and 2015 respectively, this year’s event will be opened by Shirley Rodrigues, London’s deputy mayor for the environment and energy, and is supported by the mayor’s office and the Greater London Authority (GLA). It will be co-hosted by the Bartlett, UCL and Loughborough University London.
Michael White, marketing and development director at Polypipe, said: “The international event is among the most important in terms of the future of Europe’s built environment sector. With so much emphasis placed on creating more sustainable and healthier places to work and live, EUGIC will help shape future development policy and serve as a driver for change in construction practice.”
