Bespoke fabrications used in Cheapside CSO project
Two Ridgistorm-XL large diameter pipes were required to connect a CSO chamber to a flap valve/pre outfall chamber for Severn Trent Water in Digbeth, Birmingham
Polypipe supplied two of its Ridgistorm-XL pipes, designed to suit the site-specific requirements of the project to consolidate three existing CSO chambers into one. The large diameter pipes were designed to an exact specification of 1800mm and 1200mm. Through analysing the site conditions and parameters, Polypipe’s technical design team were also able to identify a lower stiffness classification of SN1, resulting in a cost effective solution that was neither over nor under specified.
Polypipe also supplied four bespoke bends which were required due to the confined space on site and the complexity of the structure in and around the chambers.
The bespoke nature of which allowed the technical design team to plan and design the entire pipe structure from just four coordinates.
Plastic piping was essential for the success of the project as due to the reduced plan area, traditional materials such as concrete would not have been able to be implemented. Polypipe also carried out electro-fusion jointing of the Ridgistorm-XL pipes, which allowed for an air tight, seep free joint.
The success at Cheapside for Severn Trent Water highlights how Polypipe were able to understand complexities of the project and have the ability to value engineer a bespoke design. The bespoke solution met on-site requirements and along with on-site guidance, resulted in a highly efficient, cost effective sewer management solution.
